Dear WIS Families,

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. It looks like we are finally starting to get some spring weather. With the arrival of warmer weather I have included below our school guidelines for student’s attire, please take a moment to review these with your child. Additionally as I mentioned last week, you will see there are a lot of dates listed at the end of this email as I tried to list all of our upcoming grade-wide and school-wide events knowing that family calendars can get very busy this time of year.

Poetry Books: This is the last week to order a WIS poetry book. To celebrate Poetry Month in April, WIS is publishing a poetry book! Each class was tasked with writing a collaborative poem for how they show themselves kindness. We received the students’ poems and are working our way toward publishing. Your child should have brought home an order form from their teacher, but you can also order online. To order online, go to https://portal.studentreasures.com/preorder/45125945 and enter our class code: 4512945. Please reach out to your student's teacher if you'd also like to order one to donate to their classroom library! Orders close on May 4th!

School Attire: There is no formal dress code at Weston Intermediate School, however, students are expected to  be neat and clean in appearance and wear clothing that is appropriate for school. Wearing torn,  worn-out, offensive (slogan T-shirts), or distracting clothing (beach attire, short shorts, tank tops,  crop tops, flip-flops, slides) is not considered appropriate.

Smarter Balanced Assessments: This week, all students will begin taking Smarter Balanced assessments. The Smarter Balanced assessments are computer adaptive, untimed, and are designed to measure your child's mastery of the Common Core State Standards in English Language Arts/Literacy and Mathematics, in grades 3 through 8. These assessments are part of a larger set of indicators Weston uses to gauge student progress. Weston celebrates academic achievement through a variety of artifacts to determine academic progress and measure success. These include classroom assessments, performance tasks, student work, and observational data. The testing window begins on Tuesday, April 30. You should have received a detailed schedule of testing dates from your child’s teacher.

The WIS School Store:  The 5th-Grade Fundraiser had an incredible opening week! Thanks to the generosity of our Weston students and families, we have already raised over $800! Thank you to all the students who supported the fundraiser and shopped at the WIS School Store last week, and a special thank you to the 5th-graders who donated handmade items for the store and the Student Council representatives who volunteered their time to manage the store. All classes will have another chance to shop this week during your child's regularly scheduled library time. Most items are $1, with some specialty items ranging from $2-$5. Cash only, please!

All proceeds from the fundraiser will go directly to the 5th-grade class gift, which will be unveiled in June. Stay tuned for more details!
