October 30, 2023

Dear WIS Families,

This will be another busy week and month. Here are some of the upcoming events:

Tuesday, October 31st,  students can dress up for Halloween if they would like to, we just ask that they follow the guidelines to ensure students are safe and able to fully participate throughout the day.

Costume guidelines:

  • If students would like to wear a costume to school on Halloween, they should arrive at school wearing their costume. We ask that students do not get dressed at school or apply face paint or hair products at school

  • Students should wear costumes that allow them to be able to fully participate in school activities including sitting comfortably in class, participating in recess, and possibly P.E. if it is on their schedule

  • For safety reasons, no weapons, or toys that simulate weapons, or gory props are allowed. These will be taken away if they are brought into school

  • Eye masks/Hats may only be worn in the classroom during times designated by the teacher (during the class party)

  • Student costumes should not be overly graphic or depict violence, blood, or gore

Thursday, November 2nd, we start our Parent-Teacher conferences. Here are the  adjusted arrival and dismissal schedule times that will be in effect for parent-teacher conference days:

  • Thursday, November 2 – 2 Hour Delayed Opening (10:30 start time)

  • Friday, November 3 – 2 Hour Delayed Opening (10:30 start time)

  • Monday, November 6 – 12:35 Early Dismissal

Veterans Day Activities:

Each year we take time to celebrate this important holiday. In addition to our annual all-school assembly, which will take place on Friday, November 10th this year, we are working with the PTO on a Veterans Day Drive. From November 1 - 14, the WIS PTO has partnered with Operation Shoebox to collect much-needed hygiene products and toiletries for our currently deployed troops! There will be a friendly grade competition for the most donated products!

TOILETRIES/HYGIENE PRODUCTS NEEDED:

• Baby Wipes

• Feminine Hygiene Products (for female soldiers)

• Travel size body wash

• Deodorant

• Foot Powder

• Hand Lotion

• Q-Tips

• Razors (disposable)

• Travel Size Shampoo/Conditioner

• Sunscreen

• Tylenol (individual packets)

In addition, we are collecting hand-written notes of gratitude to show our appreciation for our troops' dedicated service to our country.

Donations and letters/cards may be dropped off at the "Veteran's Day Drive" table located in the WIS front hall entry starting NOVEMBER 1st.

Also this month on Saturday, November 18 at 4 PM, the high-flying Harlem Wizards will be playing Weston’s Brainy Bunch at the high school gym.  The Brainy Bunch is a team of Weston’s K-12 teachers, administrators and staff.  Players representing Weston Intermediate School, so far, are Ms. Rice, Mr. Adams, Ms. Jackson, Ms. Huynh, Mr. Douglas, Mrs. Barlow and Mr. LaPlaca.  Additionally, entertainment and performances will be provided by Weston Youth Cheer and Weston High School’s very own band: Main Tain and singing group: Westones. This game is sponsored by the Weston Education Foundation.  All net proceeds will contribute to school-based grants.  Come out and support the team! Tickets may be purchased here: https://www.westoneducationfoundation.org/save-the-date-november-18/

Thank you for your continued support.

Have a great week!

Warm Regards,

Patricia Falber, Principal
