Dear WIS Families,

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and long weekend. A big shout-out to the fifth grade chorus who sang on Thursday night at the Holiday Music Festival at the Town Green. It was a great way to start off the holiday spirit.

Now that it’s December, and the winter cold weather has already begun to occur, I have included our expectations for winter and snowy weather attire below, please take a moment to review it with your child.

Winter Attire Guidelines: We believe it is very important for the students to be able to go outside to get some fresh air and exercise. With the exception of rainy days or very cold temperatures (below 22 degrees), our students go outside every day, so students should come to school dressed warmly.  If there is snow on the ground we let the children play in it during recess, but only if they are dressed appropriately with a coat, snow boots, and gloves. If they are not dressed in the appropriate clothing, we will ask them to stay on the blacktop where there is still plenty of dry ground for them to play on and have fun, and keep their feet dry.

Other events happening at WIS:

Kindness Ninja: On Thursday, we will be welcoming back to our school, Brian Williams, for a school-wide assembly. Mr. Williams, who is referred to as the “Kindness Ninja”, is a 4th degree black belt in martial arts who believes that “kindness is the ultimate form of self-defense”. He will speak to the students about the importance of kindness and how everyone has the  ability to impact someone’s life in a positive way. Mr. Williams spoke to our students a few years ago and we are so happy to welcome him back - a big thank you to the PTO for making this happen.

Winter Coat Drive: The PTO is sponsoring a winter coat drive which will run through Monday, December 11. They are collecting winter coats and outerwear, including boots, that are in good condition in sizes 6 through adult. Donations may be dropped off in the bins located in our front hallway. All donations will benefit Head Start Norwalk to support local families in need.

I hope everyone has a great week, and to those celebrating Hanukkah, I hope you enjoy the holidays.

Warm regards,

Patricia Falber, Principal
