Dear WIS Families,

I hope everyone is having a good weekend. Here are some reminders and a list of upcoming events that are occurring soon in our school:

Planning of classes for the 2024-2025 school year: We are beginning the initial planning of classes for the 2024-2025 school year. This process is a collaborative effort that involves the classroom teacher, school psychologist, school counselor, administration, and other essential staff who work closely with your child. An email was sent out last Monday to all families who have a child in grades 3 and/or 4. In the email we shared more information about the process and included an optional parent input form if you would like to share information of which we are not aware.

Music in Our Schools Month: We continue to celebrate Music in Our Schools month, with a variety of school-wide activities, including playing Music Trivia, Name that Tune, and “Guess the Performer” during the Morning Show. In addition, our third grade students will be presenting a musical concert for families on the mornings of April 9 and 10 at 9:00am. Students in the Browns, Cannitos, and Pando will perform Tuesday, April 9 and students in the Davignons, Larrabees, Lubys, and Rice will perform on Wednesday, April 10. We hope that all third grade families will attend this wonderful event.

March Madness in the Library!: This week, we have two new titles facing off in our Picture Book March Madness Tournament! First up is Ablaze with Color, the story of painter Alma Thomas, the first black woman to have a solo exhibit at the Whitney Museum in New York City and the first black woman to have her work chosen for the White House collection. Our second title is All the Way to the Top, the story of a young girl, Jennifer Keelan-Chaffins, and her fight for Americans with disabilities. Both titles are 2024 Nutmeg Award nominees and are available in the WIS Library.

Solar Eclipse: As we get our students ready to experience the solar eclipse on Monday, April, 8, a notice was sent home last Friday with some important information to ensure the safety and enjoyment of this event. More information will be coming home soon as we get closer to this rare event.

Grade 5 Parents: You should have received an email from Mr. Doak, principal of Weston Middle School about several events and activities that have been planned to welcome your child to sixth grade and to answer questions you may have about the transition to middle school. A Parent Orientation is scheduled for Thursday, April 11 at 7pm in the middle school library learning commons.
