Dear WIS Families,

I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend. We have some fun events and activities planned this week before heading out for vacation next week. We also have a special event coming up to celebrate Poetry Month, please see the paragraph towards the end of this Update on Poetry Month:

Solar Eclipse: Tomorrow, Monday, April 8, is the solar eclipse.  Our teachers have been working with the students to ensure they enjoy the experience as well as to stay safe while the eclipse takes place. As we’ve mentioned, the district has provided certified eclipse glasses (ISO 12312-2 Standard) to all students and staff to use while they are outside looking at the eclipse. We ask that you please talk to your child and reinforce the need to follow the safety precautions and not look directly at the sun while the eclipse is taking place. If your child is walking after school, we will be putting them in small groups to walk with an adult to keep them safe as the students will not be wearing the glasses while they walk.  It will be similar to dusk as 90% of the sun will be blocked by our dismissal time.

Third Grade Choral Concert: Third grade students will be presenting a choral concert for families on the mornings of April 9 and 10 at 9:00am. Students in Mrs. Brown, Mr. Cannito, and Mrs. Pando's classes will perform Tuesday, April 9 and students in Ms. Davignon, Mrs. Larrabee, Mrs. Luby, and Miss Rice's classes will perform on Wednesday, April 10. We hope that all third grade families will attend this wonderful event.

Grade 5 Parents: A Parent Orientation will be held this Thursday, April 11 at 7pm in the middle school library learning commons. This meeting is for parents/guardians only, as fifth grade students will visit the middle school later in the spring. This meeting is a great opportunity to hear about your child’s upcoming year in sixth grade and to ask any questions you may have about the transition to middle school.

April is Poetry Month: To celebrate Poetry Month, WIS is publishing a poetry book! Each class was tasked with writing a collaborative poem for how they show themselves kindness. We have started to receive your students’ poems and we are working our way toward publishing them which means orders are now open! Your student will receive an order form from their teacher, but you can also order online. To order online, go to https://portal.studentreasures.com/preorder/45125945 and enter our class code: 4512945. Please reach out to your student's teacher if you'd also like to order one to donate to their classroom library! Orders close on May 4th!
