Upcoming testing at WIS

Dear Parent/Guardian,

I am writing to inform you about the upcoming Smarter Balanced and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) assessments that your child will be taking in a few weeks. These assessments are part of a larger set of indicators Weston uses to gauge student progress. Weston celebrates academic achievement through a variety of artifacts to determine academic progress and measure success. These include classroom assessments, performance tasks, student work, and observational data.

The Smarter Balanced assessments are computer adaptive, untimed, and are designed to measure your child's mastery of the Common Core State Standards in English Language Arts/Literacy and Mathematics, in grades 3 through 8. The NGSS assessments, which are also untimed and computer-adaptive, are designed to assess your child's understanding of the science concepts and practices outlined in the Next Generation Science Standards, in grades 5, 8, and 11.

The testing window at Weston Intermediate School for each grade level will begin on Tuesday, April 30 and end on Friday, May 17. A detailed schedule of testing dates will be forthcoming from your child’s teacher.

Please know that we are committed to ensuring that your child has a positive testing experience, and we appreciate your support and partnership in helping your child succeed.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me or your child's teacher.

Sincerely,

Patricia Falber

Principal
