Dear WIS Families,
We had a great first week! It was so nice to welcome everyone back to school and have our classrooms and hallways filled with students once again. Last week Mrs. Ford and I held assemblies for each of the grade levels so we could greet all the students personally and take time to review WIS PRIDE and our school expectations.
Communication is key in helping you support your child and to know what is taking place in school. Each Sunday I send home a Weekly Family Update which will include important events and updates as well as a list of upcoming dates. The PTO also has a weekly newsletter called the WhIStle which is available to all families who join the PTO. We also have an Instagram page, westonintermediate_ct, where I frequently post fun pictures.
Back-to-School Nights
This year we will be holding three Back-to-School nights, one for each grade level. These highly informative evenings are for parents/guardians only and begin at 6:30pm in your child’s classroom. We hope you all will be able to attend.
Tuesday, September 10 - Grade 3
Wednesday, September 11 - Grade 4
Tuesday, September 17 - Grade 5
PBIS
At WIS we use the acronym PRIDE - Personal Accountability, Respect, Integrity, Discipline, and Effort, to promote our expectations for students. Our teachers are reviewing what these expectations look like throughout the school. Classes can earn a “paw” when they model one of these expectations. This year for every 25 paws that are earned we will hold a school-wide celebration. We will be sure to let you know when they are happening.
Attendance
Thank you for all your support and effort in getting students to their bus stops and school on time. Please note the attendance policy in our school handbook. If your child is not coming to school for any reason, please call our attendance line at 203-221-6331.
Dismissal
Our safety team has a few reminders for you about dismissal.
-
All cars must stay in the car line for pick up. The parking lot is closed to parking during these hours.
-
All changes in dismissal plans must be put into the School Dismissal Manager by 1pm. These changes can be made as recurring for events that regularly occur i.e, SPorts & Fitness, WOW, Cheerleading, etc.
-
To help facilitate the car line, please remember to have a large paper sign visible on your dashboard that has your child’s first and last name in large print letters. Please keep the sign visible until your child reaches your car.
Technology
Please note the updated technology policy referenced in our school handbook. Cell Phones and Smart Watches are not allowed in school or to be used on the buses. These devices can be distracting to students and teachers. If a student needs to call home or speak with a parent, we are happy to have them come to the office so we can arrange that for them.
PTO
We have a very supportive and active PTO. Our PTO president this year is Stephanie Feingold. Joining the PTO is a great way to get involved and to meet other families. Membership information can be found on their website.
Safety Drills
Every month, we practice safety and security drills at WIS. The safety and security of our students is paramount. We explain and practice these drills in an age appropriate manner. Our goal is to ensure that staff and students are prepared and confident in handling an emergency. Our staff is highly trained and we ensure that students are treated with the utmost care.
