Weekly Family Update!

Posted Date: 10/07/2024

October 6, 2024

We have lots of fun events taking place this week. Please take a moment to read through our upcoming events, and just a reminder that this coming Friday, October 11 is an early dismissal day for professional development. Students will be dismissed at 12:35, and lunch times will take place for all students prior to dismissal. The cut-off time for changes on Dismissal Manager for early dismissal days is 10:00a.m. Also a reminder that  there is no school on Monday October 14 for Columbus/Indigenous People Day observance.

WIS Book Fair:

Our Book Fair starts this week. There are so many wonderful books for your child to choose from this year. The Book Fair runs from Monday, October 7 through Friday, October 11 in the WIS Library Learning Commons. We welcome families to come to school and join your child while their class is visiting the Fair. Having students choose their own books inspires them to become more engaged, stronger readers.

Once again, the Book Fair will be cash-free. Parents may set up an eWallet, or digital payment account for purchases. Use the following link to set up your child's eWallet: https://www.scholastic.com/bf/wisbooks

This year for those who cannot attend during school hours, there are two special shopping times - Wednesday, October 9 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., all are invited to Family Shopping Night with Tony's pizza truck. Early Bird Shopping will take place on Friday October 11 from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.

The Book Fair welcomes parent volunteers to help students select books and check out. The sign-up is available here

Picture Day:

This Thursday, October 10th is Picture Day at WIS. We will be taking a panoramic photo of all our fifth graders at 9:00, so we would love for all fifth graders to be on time so they don’t miss this important photo opportunity.

Parent Math Meeting:

Understanding Elementary School Mathematics – A Parent & Guardian Workshop

We are pleased to invite you to our annual parent & guardian math workshops! Our goal is to help you understand the math your child is learning and allow you to better support their learning at home. This session will be interactive and hands-on, so come excited to learn some new ways to think about mathematics!

WIS: Tuesday, October 22nd, 9:00-10:30 AM

Hurlbutt: Wednesday, October 30th,  9:15-10:45 AM

Reservations are needed and space is limited, as we need to know how many sets of materials to prepare. If we exceed our capacity, another session will be offered.

Please respond via the Google Form no later than October 16th. Both workshops are about K-5 math in Weston with a focus on the K-2 or 3-5 level. If you have students in both grade bands you can sign up using both forms or pick one of your choosing.
