Weekly Family Update!

Posted Date: 10/15/2024

October 11, 2024

I hope everyone enjoys the long weekend. Our Book Fair this week was a resounding success and so much fun - thank you to everyone who volunteered and contributed to making the Fair this year the very best. A huge thank you goes to the Book Fair chairs, Miriam Zalcman and Michelle Ruiz Andrews, who put in countless hours to bring this wonderful event to our school.

Just a reminder that school is closed on Monday for Columbus/Indigenous People Day.

Please take a moment to look at our upcoming events, including Halloween which is only a few weeks away:

Safety Information:

The safety of our students and staff is paramount and we want to clarify an important detail about our locked doors. While doors are kept locked to ensure that unauthorized individuals cannot enter, students and staff are never “locked in.”  Students and staff can always exit the room without having to unlock the door. The locking mechanism only restricts entry from the outside, ensuring safety, while still allowing free and easy exit in case of emergencies.  Please rest assured that safety protocols are in place to protect everyone while ensuring easy access to exit when needed. Our goal is to create a safe yet comfortable learning space where students can focus on their growth and education without worry.

Billboard Contest and Recycling:

Our students have been learning about recycling and participated in an assembly called “Trash Talks” presented by the Housatonic Resources Recovery Authority (HRRA).  a regional, governmental, waste management and recycling authority serving fourteen municipalities in western Connecticut. Students are invited to participate in the HRRA annual recycling billboard contest.  This contest encourages participants to design billboards that promote recycling and sustainability, raising awareness in our communities about the importance of environmental responsibility.

Important information:

  • Artwork must be submitted on the provided template and created in landscape orientation 10” x 4”. Artwork must be in color, in any medium of the student’s choosing. The ORIGINAL ARTWORK MUST BE submitted and completed by the student. One student per entry and only one entry per student allowed.

  • Student’s name, address, school and grade must be printed on space provided.

  • The 2025 Billboard theme is: “Batteries Can Cause Fires” Student’s artwork should teach residents that batteries don’t belong in the trash or household recycling.  Artwork should promote how to properly dispose of batteries.  HERE are some examples of previous years

  • Cash prizes are awarded to regional winners.

  • HERE is the official website with educational videos and more resources for this year’s contest and theme

  •  Artwork should be submitted to the main office drop box by November 12, 2024.

Important Notice about upcoming road work in Weston:

We received notice from the Selectmen's Office that this week on Tuesday the 15th and Wednesday the 16th, the Town will be milling and resurfacing a portion of Route 57 in Weston from Trails End Road to Christopher Hill Road.   The work is scheduled to take place from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday to Wednesday.  The road will still be open, but anyone traveling in that direction should expect delays.  Also, please be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions.

Halloween:

With Halloween fast approaching, we have developed some guidelines to help ensure a safe and enjoyable day for everyone.

  • If students would like to wear a costume to school on Halloween, they should arrive at school wearing their costume. We ask that students do not get dressed at school or apply face paint or hair products at school.

  • Students should wear costumes that allow them to be able to fully participate in all school activities. Costumes that make it difficult for students to sit and/or move around comfortably should be avoided.

  • For safety sake, no masks, weapons (or toys simulating weapons), or gory props are allowed.

  • Student costumes should not be overly graphic or depict violence, blood or gore.

Halloween Haunt Concert:

Weston High School Music department will present a “Halloween Haunt Concert” on Tuesday evening, October 29 from 7:00-7:45pm in the high school gymnasium. All proceeds will benefit the high school music department - $10 for the whole family or $5 per person. Fun activities will include a Halloween costume parade, temporary tattoos, and candy trick-or-treat.
