It’s hard to believe that we are already in the last week of October. We are looking forward to a fun Halloween on Thursday. If you haven’t had a chance to look at our costume guidelines, they are listed below. This week we will also hold our monthly school spirit day on Friday as it’s the first Friday of the month!
Our Fall parent conferences are coming soon. Parent-teacher conferences are an important opportunity for parents and teachers to collaborate and discuss a child’s progress in school. These meetings provide valuable insights into a student’s academic performance, behavior, and social development, helping parents understand their child’s strengths and areas of growth. Our teachers set aside individual conference times for parents/guardians. Be on the lookout for sign up information from your child’s classroom teacher.
Please take a moment to look at our other upcoming events as well as some important information:
Parent Math Meeting:
We held a very informative and well attended parent meeting last week about our new math program, Illustrative Math. This resource is currently being used in grade 5 with plans to bring it into grades 3 and 4 next year. The meeting was designed to help families understand the math their child is learning and to help support their learning at home. The session was interactive and hands-on, and parents were excited to learn some new ways to think about mathematics! For those who were not able to attend the meeting we were able to record it, and have uploaded it onto our WIS website. The site also includes all the handouts that were given out during the meeting. To locate the video start at WIS then go to Academics then to Math Resources where you will find a section for Parent Workshops.
PowerSchool Parent Portal Update:
This week you should have received an email from Dr. Henckel about a new addition to the PowerSchool portal. In the ongoing effort to save resources and streamline communication, we’re excited to announce that you are now able to access your child’s individual assessment reports online. You will be able to view these through the PowerSchool Parent Portal at your convenience.
The first set of reports available is the Fall NWEA results for students in grades 1 through 9. In the coming weeks, additional reports will be posted, including Smarter Balanced, NGSS, and Progress Reports/Report Cards.
To access your child’s reports, please follow this link to the Portfolio Plus Parent Instructions.
Please note, that this feature is available through a web browser only and cannot be accessed via the PowerSchool app. While it's possible to view the reports using a smartphone browser, we recommend using a desktop or laptop computer for the best experience.
If you have any questions or need assistance with PowerSchool access, feel free to reach out to our helpdesk at helpdesk@westonps.org.
Fill Our Hearts with PRIDE Challenge
Recently during PE class WIS students took part in a school-wide Fill Our Hearts with PRIDE Challenge. The focus of this challenge was to highlight the individual aspects of WIS PRIDE in our building: Personal Accountability, Respect, Integrity, Discipline, and Effort; as well as to develop students' knowledge about the importance of supporting the health and strength of their hearts, lungs, and brains through physical activity. The WIS school goal was to reach 5,000 laps together, and the students exceeded this goal by running a grand total of 5,767 laps! We're so proud of their effort and great demonstration of PRIDE.
Halloween:
Halloween is this Thursday, so please read through the guidelines below to help us ensure a safe and enjoyable day for everyone:
If students would like to wear a costume to school on Halloween, they should arrive at school wearing their costume. We ask that students do not get dressed at school or apply face paint or hair products at school.
Students should wear costumes that allow them to be able to fully participate in all school activities. Costumes that make it difficult for students to sit and/or move around comfortably should be avoided.
For safety sake, no masks, weapons (or toys simulating weapons), or gory props are allowed.
Student costumes should not be overly graphic or depict violence, blood or gore.
