Last week was another busy week. I hope everyone was able to meet with your child’s teacher last week. Parent-teacher conferences are an important opportunity for parents and teachers to collaborate and discuss a child’s progress in school. If for any reason you were unable to schedule a conference last week and don’t have one scheduled, please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher. At WIS we strive to have strong home-school partnerships. By keeping communication open, parents and teachers can understand each child’s unique strengths and needs, and help children feel safe, confident, and motivated to learn and grow.
Tomorrow we will be recognizing and celebrating Veterans Day. We invite all of our students and staff to wear red, white and blue to show their support and thanks to our veterans. We will start the day with a school-wide assembly which will be filled with songs and stories about the national holiday. We recently sent home a flyer that included a large star where students could list the names of any veterans they have in their family. The stars will be hung in the main hallway to recognize and remember these important people.
Please take a moment to look at our other upcoming events:
Veterans Day Drive:
The fifth grade student council members kicked off a school-wide November fundraiser for Homes for the Brave, an organization in Bridgeport which supports our veterans and service people. The students chose this fundraiser as it aligns perfectly with Veterans Day. The collection will continue until Friday, the 15th. Bins are in the entrance of the school building.
Specific needs we are collecting are Paper Goods:
paper plates
napkins
plastic utensils
paper cups
paper towels
toilet paper
and batteries

Parent Event, “Social Media and Our Kids”
In the district October newsletter, Lisa Barbiero, our superintendent, highlighted an upcoming parent event on November 21, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. in the High School Auditorium. Join us for an evening with Max Stossel, an award-winning artist and the founder of Social Awakening, an organization dedicated to helping young people navigate and thrive in today’s digital landscape. Max will share essential insights into the influence of social media on our children and how we can support their social and emotional well-being in the modern world. This event aligns with our district’s commitment to fostering a supportive school climate and enhancing the social-emotional wellness of our students, families, and staff. We believe that a well-rounded academic experience includes equipping our students with tools for emotional resilience, and this presentation will offer valuable perspectives for parents and guardians. A special thank you to all of the Weston School PTOs for sponsoring this important event and making this opportunity possible for our community. Find out more at www.socialawakening.org
