Dear WIS Families,
Welcome to the first week of spring. We have officially started on the third trimester of the year, which means the fourth graders are now back to having Health classes and fifth graders have started their Maker Tech classes.
We’re gearing up for lots of fun events in the coming months - an important date to make note of is our annual “Fifth Grade Celebration”. Fifth grade families are invited to celebrate with us as we recognize our fifth graders before they head off to middle school. The Celebration will take place on Thursday, June 12 at 9:00am in the WIS Cafetorium. Please note that due to space restrictions, we can only accommodate 2 guests per student.
Progress Report for Second Trimester
The end of the second trimester is her. WIS progress reports for the second trimester will be available in your Powerschool Parent Portal starting at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28. On that day, Mrs. Ford will send an email with step-by-step instructions for accessing the reports through PowerSchool and Portfolio(+). This week you can prepare by making sure you can access your Parent Portal account. If you need help accessing your child’s PowerSchool account, please contact the main office for assistance.
New Director of Security Reminder
Families will have the opportunity to meet the new Director of Safety and Security, Mr. James Wiltsie, at the HES/WIS PTO meeting on Wednesday, March 26 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. in the WIS cafetorium. You do not have to be in the HES/WIS PTO to join this meeting. We encourage you to attend.
WIS Celebrated the International Day of Happiness!
Thursday, March 20th is recognized around the world as the International Day of Happiness. WIS celebrated this important day by thinking of all the things that make us happy! If you'd like to hear some of our students' ideas, take a look at this video clip from the WIS Daily News!
March Makerplay Month
Thank you to all the parent volunteers who helped us launch our first March Makerplay Month! Over the past few weeks, over twenty parent volunteers led STEM-based, creative activities in the library. Students learned how to fold professional paper airplanes, build popsicle stick bridges, design catapults, build leprechaun traps, create paper rockets, and fold origami! Thank you to our parent volunteers for your time, talents, and efforts!
You're invited!
Join me and other members of our dedicated staff for a thought-provoking book club discussion on the #1 New York Times Bestseller, The Anxious Generation, by Jonathan Haidt. Together, we'll explore the rising rates of anxiety and depression among young people and discover practical strategies for fostering resilience in our children. This is a unique opportunity to connect with fellow parents, engage in meaningful dialogue, and gain valuable insights into supporting our students' well-being. Let's work together to create a healthy, balanced environment for our children. Our first meeting will be this Wednesday, March 26th from 8:15 AM - 9 AM in the WIS Library, followed by the General PTO meeting in the WIS Cafetorium at 9 AM. For this session, we will primarily focus on Part I of the book. If you plan to attend, please RSVP here so we can plan accordingly. Thank you!
The WIS Feel Good Club - Session Tomorrow!
The next session on the WIS Feel Good Club is tomorrow, Monday, March 24th at 8 AM in the WIS Library! All students are welcome. This club was created by a team of five 5th-graders, and their mission is to offer a calm, fun space for all WIS students to kick off their week with positivity and friendship. Please do not drop off your child prior to 8 AM.
Music in our Schools Month
For 40 years, March has been designated by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) as Music In Our Schools Month® (MIOSM®). The positive impact of music education in the lives of students lasts a lifetime. Therefore, ensuring equitable access to music education for the youngest members of our society—students—is paramount.
Every day, in classrooms and rehearsal rooms across our school district, music educators dedicate themselves to reaching all students with life-changing musical experiences. Parents, administrators, and the wider community often only see the wonderful results of music performances; however, we miss the months of practice and rehearsals and more importantly the learning process that takes place to make it all happen.
Throughout the month of March, our schools will celebrate our exceptional music program with building-wide activities and in-school performances featuring student musicians. We encourage members of our community to acknowledge and celebrate music education as an essential part of every student’s educational journey!
Weston Intermediate School will feature our student musicians on Pride News! We’ll celebrate music in our school with Music Trivia, Music Fun Facts and Mystery Musicians! Music classes will reflect on the importance of music in their lives with written reflections of “What I Love About Music” and student musicians will perform in the atrium throughout the month.
March 28-30: WHS Spring Musical - The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
Singing, spelling and side-splitting shenanigans are coming to Weston High School as the drama club presents The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. It’s a battle of wits as six unique contestants vie for the spelling bee championship of a lifetime in this hilarious, that’s H-I-L-A-R-I-O-U-S, musical comedy. The show runs March 28th-30th with tickets now available at www.whscompany.com.
ART Volunteers Needed
Parent volunteers are needed in the WIS art room for Art Jam!, the Weston K-12 All District Art Show! Please email Ms. Carroll at CadenceCarroll@westonps.org if she can add you to her volunteer list. Very flexible times available to help in May and June. Thank you so much. She will add you now, and then be in touch later this spring.
