Weston Intermediate School
May 25, 2025 Dear WIS Families, Happy Memorial Day Weekend! I hope you are all enjoying the long weekend and had a chance to visit the Memorial Day Fair, organized and run by the HES and WIS PTO. Even with the cooler-than-usual weather, it’s been a wonderful time so far. A heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers who worked so hard to make this important fundraiser possible—your time and effort are truly appreciated! Last week, our fourth and fifth grade choruses gave a fantastic performance at their spring concert, filling the evening with beautiful and lively music. The very next night, more than 55 students lit up the stage in our school-wide Talent Show. Congratulations to all the students who participated in these memorable events—we’re so proud of your talent and enthusiasm! This week our Orchestra concert will take place on Wednesday evening, May 28, and the fifth grade Band will take the stage on Thursday evening, May 29. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Spring Climate Family Surveys This is the last week to take the climate survey. Your feedback is important to us. Below is the link again and important information about the surveys for your convenience. The climate surveys provide an opportunity to gather comprehensive data on the experiences and perceptions of students, staff, and the broader community. The survey opened on Sunday, May 4th, and we are asking you to complete it by Saturday, May 31st: Family Survey Link: https://surveys.panoramaed.
If you have more than one child in the Weston Public Schools, please complete one survey for each child. The survey is anonymous. Students (grades 3 and up) and staff in each of our buildings will complete Panorama Education student and staff climate surveys during the month of May. We hope you feel comfortable answering the questions honestly to help us review our programs and ensure our students feel physically, socially, and emotionally safe in our schools.
WIS School Store is Back!
The WIS School Store is BACK this week to offer additional packs of the WIS Superstaff Trading Cards to any students who may be interested. All students received a free pack of trading cards on Friday, but additional packs will be for sale this week during your child's regularly scheduled book exchange. Packs are $5, and all proceeds from the sales will benefit the 5th-Grade Class Gift, which will be unveiled in June.
Planning for Next Year If for any reason, your student is not returning to the Intermediate School or not transitioning to the Middle School next year, please reach out to our registrar, Tina Hefferan at tinahefferan@westonps.org. This will give us time to prepare withdrawal paperwork before the summer. We know when families are moving, the receiving districts may need transcripts or information prior to the end of the current school year.
Wait Until 8th The Wait Until 8th pledge—in which families commit to delay giving smartphones to kids until the end of 8th grade—is active in Weston. Over the last year, families at HES and WIS have signed, including about 30% of the current 5th grade class. Parent-organizers would love to continue the effort as we head to WMS.
More information has surfaced about the impact of smartphones and social media on children's mental health and development—Jonathan Haidt's book "The Anxious Generation" has presented findings on depression, anxiety, bullying and suicide rates. The benefits of delaying smartphones can be especially powerful for our rising middle schoolers as they face the emotional rollercoaster of puberty, social pressures, etc.
This is, of course, a personal choice for each family, but organizers are sharing information to make parents aware and to build solidarity.

WIS Yearbooks The yearbook committee encourages parents to continue to submit pictures to be included in this year’s yearbook. Please use this link for purchases and photo submissions: https://wispto.
Communication Protocol Link to Website Please remember we have a WIS Communication Protocol 2024-2025.pdf to help you navigate the common occurrences in the daily lives of students, families, and staff. For many of your concerns, this protocol will let you know how to proceed.
