June 8, 2025

Dear WIS Families,

June has arrived and with it so many fun end-of-year activities. I hope your child shared with you some of the fun and joyful events that took place last week. I’ve included some highlights below as well as some upcoming events:

Field Days

We were truly lucky with the weather this year and enjoyed two beautiful, warm, and sunny days for our Field Days last week. A big thank you to Mr. Adams, our PE teacher, who organized and led these amazing days with the support of Ms. McKirryher, who is filling in for Mrs. Weissauer during her maternity leave. It was such a joy to see the students having so much fun! A heartfelt thank-you also goes to our PTO and all the volunteers who helped make these days so special—especially for our fifth graders, who not only enjoyed a full day of activities but were also treated to lunch from the Cowabunga food truck as a parting gift from the PTO. As I’ve said before, we are so grateful to the PTO for helping make events like these such a memorable and meaningful part of our students’ experience.

Music, Memories, and a Special Surprise

On Thursday, three of our music ensembles performed for the entire school in a joyful end-of-year concert. Students from the band, fifth grade orchestra, and fourth and fifth grade chorus shared selections from their spring performances, much to the delight of fellow students and staff. These young musicians have worked incredibly hard, and it was a wonderful opportunity for them to share their talents with our school community. A big thank you goes to Mrs. Moretti, Mrs. Dirschel, and Ms. Brooks who lead these ensembles and bring the joy of playing and singing to our students’  lives.

During the assembly, I was deeply touched by a special surprise organized by the students and staff. They presented a heartfelt slideshow honoring my years in Weston and upcoming retirement, followed by a tribute song that brought many emotional tears. I was truly moved by the care and effort that went into this celebration—especially since the students had secretly practiced and were proud to have kept it a secret! It was a beautiful and unforgettable moment.

Fifth Grade Celebration

On Thursday, June 12, we will take time to recognize and honor our fifth graders as they reach the end of their elementary school years. Each fifth grader is invited to bring two guests to the Celebration, which will take place at 9:00 a.m. in the WIS cafetorium. A reception, generously sponsored by the PTO and fourth grade families, will follow the ceremony.  Due to seating limitations, we are only able to accommodate two guests per student. Our third and fourth grade students will have a chance to acknowledge the fifth graders as they walk through the grade-level hallways on their way to the cafetorium to help make this a school-wide celebration.

Courtyard cleanup (3:15-4:00) to get ready for the Fifth Grade Celebration

Mr. Bisceglie who heads the Green Team at WIS is asking for help sprucing up the courtyard for the upcoming 5th Grade Celebration. Parents can join him with their stuff at 3:15 on Monday, June 9th from 3:15-4:15. Parents will need to sign in at the front desk before joining Mr. Bisceglie in the courtyard. Please bring your gardening gloves and your favorite weeding tool.

WIS Library Materials - Due Tuesday, June 10th!

As we approach the end of the school year, please double-check your bookshelves at home for any WIS Library books. Overdue notices were distributed this past Friday to students with outstanding library loans. All library books are due back to the WIS Library by Tuesday, June 10th. Thank you for your support!

Planning for Next Year

If for any reason, your student is not returning to the Intermediate School or not transitioning to the Middle School next year, please reach out to our registrar, Tina Hefferan at tinahefferan@westonps.org.  This will give us time to prepare withdrawal paperwork before the summer.  We know when families are moving, the receiving districts may need transcripts or information prior to the end of the current school year.

Communication Protocol Link to Website

Please remember we have a WIS Communication Protocol 2024-2025.pdf to help you navigate the common occurrences in the daily lives of students, families, and staff. For many of your concerns, this protocol will let you know how to proceed.
