JDDear Families,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to Weston Intermediate School, a vibrant and caring learning community where students in Grades 3–5 are known, valued, and supported every step of the way. These formative years are filled with growth, academically, socially, and emotionally, and our team is committed to creating a learning environment that empowers students to thrive.

At WIS, we believe that meaningful learning begins with strong relationships and a deep sense of belonging. Through the continued use of the Responsive Classroom approach and restorative practices, we help students build positive connections, take ownership of their actions, and contribute to a safe and respectful school culture. Every classroom is a community where students are seen, heard, and celebrated for who they are.

Our dedicated educators use innovative, student-centered teaching methods to meet each child where they are and challenge them to reach their full potential. Our language arts program is grounded in best practices for literacy development, emphasizing the critical role of knowledge building, vocabulary acquisition, and the integration of reading and writing. The curriculum prioritizes student choice and voice, encouraging learners to read, research, and write about topics that matter to them. Integration with science and social studies topics and content learning allows students to broaden their depth of knowledge across all subjects.

Our approach to math instruction centers on developing strong conceptual understanding through hands-on, inquiry-based learning. Students are encouraged to explore problems deeply, explain their reasoning, and collaborate with peers to construct solutions. Teachers guide this process by creating space for productive struggle, ensuring that students remain at the heart of problem-solving while building both confidence and competence in mathematics.

We are especially excited to offer robust enrichment opportunities that nurture curiosity beyond the core curriculum. From the arts, music, and wellness to technology, engineering, and digital literacy, our programs engage students’ interests and broaden their horizons. A standout among these opportunities is our brand new Falber Innovation Lab—a dynamic, collaborative space where students can explore robotics, design thinking, coding, and STEM challenges that promote creativity, perseverance, and real-world problem-solving.

Outside of academics, students participate in programs that promote digital citizenship, the performing arts, and physical fitness. From school-wide musicals to community-building experiences and leadership roles, students have countless ways to discover their passions and build confidence.

Together with our incredibly supportive PTO, we work to create a school environment where every child feels safe, inspired, and proud. We encourage families to stay engaged by volunteering, attending events, or simply talking to your child about their learning. Your partnership matters, and it makes a difference.

We’re so glad you’re here. Whether your child is just joining our WIS family or moving up through the grades, we’re excited to walk this journey together. If you ever have questions, ideas, or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We believe in open communication and in working together to make Weston Intermediate School a place where all students belong and succeed.

Kind regards,

Jen D’Amico, Principal

Dear Parents, Students, and Staff:
Assistant Principal Leslie FordI am thrilled to be a member of the Weston Intermediate School community as your Assistant Principal.

At WIS, we create a caring environment where students feel safe to take risks and challenge themselves. Our collaborative staff works closely to meet the needs of all of our learners. Students at WIS are challenged on a daily basis to be resilient and flexible thinkers who are pushed to succeed. Our teachers utilize the Workshop model in their instruction which allows for focused and targeted instruction followed by independent work time coupled with small group instruction. Students at WIS learn in an environment focused on the concept that we are creating lifelong readers and writers that have ownership in their learning. Our staff also promotes an environment where students are encouraged to think critically, communicate their learning and be proficient problem solvers.

At WIS, the social and emotional needs of our students are of the utmost importance. The use of Responsive Classroom at WIS creates a safe, joyful and engaging learning environment where all students feel a part of our community. Also our WIS Behavioral Expectations include personal accountability, respect, integrity, discipline, and effort which are woven into all  academic areas across the school day.

When I am not at WIS, you can find me spending time with my family in Fairfield. I have four children and am an active member of my community. I am also an avid runner, tennis player, football fanatic, and baker when the time allows.

My door is always open and I look forward to meeting you in the near future. Please contact me with any questions, comments or concerns.

Sincerely,

Leslie Ford
Assistant Principal
